What is a forklift truck?
A forklift truck is a truck with a mast and two forks at the front. The forks slide under a pallet, the mast lifts the load and the truck drives it to the place where you set it down. Forklift truck, lift truck and forklift are three names for the same machine. If you want to rent a forklift truck, you will find the full range on our page forklift rental.
A forklift is different from a warehouse truck. A pallet truck only moves pallets across the floor, a stacker places them on low to medium-height racking and a reach truck works in narrow aisles between high racking. You can read about the differences in pallet truck, stacker or forklift rental and in the difference between a forklift and a reach truck.

What lifting capacity do you need?
Start from your heaviest load, including pallet and packaging, and from the height at which you need to set that load down. The lifting capacity on the rating plate applies to a standard load and a standard mast. With a long or wide load, a higher mast or attachments, the safe lifting capacity is lower. So include the weight, the dimensions and the lift height in your enquiry. Which drive type is available in each class is shown in our overview forklift rental by tonnage.
Can you rent a forklift per day, week or month?
Yes. You rent a forklift per day, per week or per month. Renting for a day suits a one-off job, such as a relocation or a delivery that you unload yourself. With a one-day rental, the transport costs weigh relatively heavily. The monthly rate applies to rentals of 3 months or more. You can read more about short-term and long-term rental in temporary forklift rental and long-term forklift rental.
Do you need a certificate for a forklift?
A forklift certificate is not required by law, but the operator must be demonstrably competent. In practice you demonstrate this with a certificate or training. The employer is responsible for this. The rules and the minimum age are set out in Is a forklift certificate mandatory?
